After taking the month of May easy following the Wisconsin Marathon, I started easing back into training on June 1.  What is the new goal, you ask?  The Chicago Marathon on October 12, 2014.

As my coach started writing up my schedule, he send me a teaser e-mail, telling me this training cycle was all about the number 200.  Did I know what that meant?  Minimum of 200 miles a month?  I had no idea.  Then he told me:

200 minutes.

My goal is to run the Chicago Marathon in 200 minutes or less (3:20).  That would be a nice PR for me and I know I need to work my butt off to even begin to get to shooting distance of that.  But I have plenty of time.  One adjustment this season is to bump up my easy pace.  It has been between 8:45 and 9:00, bu this season I am aiming for 8:40-8:50.  I also need to get back down to race weight as I am up a good 8 lbs (ugh).

Let the work begin!

Week 1 (6.8.14)

Monday: rest / arm weights

Tuesday: 45 minutes with 4 strides / 5.15 miles / 8:46 pace

Wednesday:  30 minutes / 3.5 miles / 8:42 pace

Thursday: Unplanned rest (too busy) / arm weights

Friday: 65 minutes w/4 strides / 7.5 miles / 8:44 pace

Saturday:  36 minutes / Girls on the Run 5k with my running buddy

Sunday:  83 minutes / 8 miles / 9:06 pace (long run with my son and 2 friends who I am coaching for their first half marathon).

Total: 4 hours, 10 minutes / 27.3 miles

Week 2 (6.15.14)

Monday: rest / arm weights

Tuesday: 60 minutes w/4 strides / 7 miles / 8:39 pace

Wednesday: 45 minutes / 5.16 / 8:45 pace

Thursday: 33 minutes / 3.8 miles / 8:42 pace

Friday: 45 minutes / 5.2 miles / 8:49 pace

Saturday: Arm weights and pace run.  I was scheduled to run with 3 miles @ 7:30 pace.  After a nice easy warm up, I ran in a fun local 5k.  Ended up with 23:08, which is a 7:28 pace.  It is amazing how easy a tempo run is during a race!  Also, since I am in an old lady age group and the fasties must have decided to sleep in, I also walked away with 1st in my AG.

Sunday: 81 minutes / 9 miles / 9:00 pace.  This run was brutal.  It was 75 degrees and crazy windy (18 mph w/35 mph gusts).  The name of the game was just to fight through it.

Total: 5 hours; 5 minutes / 35.1 miles

200 baby.
200, baby.
