Mint’s Training Log – 2.2.14

Woo hoo - I broke out my sweet GOTR socks for my easy Sunday run!
Woo hoo – I broke out my sweet GOTR socks for my easy Sunday run!

Hello Salties!

January was a very busy month for me and my training was admittedly a bit sporadic, so I didn’t post any training logs.  I did continue to run and base-build a little.  I was also lucky enough to escape this crazy polar vortex weather and get some warm weather running in Burbank, California and San Antonio, Texas.

Unfortunately a serious cold side-lined me for a week, but now I am back at it and ready to start formally training tomorrow.  That’s right, I got my coach back on board and I will officially start training for the Wisconsin Marathon (5.3.2014) tomorrow.

Here is how this week shook out:

Monday is usually my rest day, but I ended up working at home since the boys had no school due to the extreme cold.  Since I was able to save all of the time from my commute, I used it up on the treadmill.  90 minutes – 10.25 miles (8:48 pace).

Tuesday I was planning to run before work, but once again the kids had no school and I let them sleep in the basement not thinking I’d need the treadmill in the basement in the early am.  I even got up bright and early before I realized they were down there.  It would have been cruel (and definitely a big backfire) if I went down there at 5:00 am and fired up the mill.  So, it was a rest day aside from my PT exercised for my shoulders.

Wednesday was also a rest day.  I was planning to run after work, but the kids begged and pleaded us to take them out to dinner to celebrate their spectacular report cards.  We just couldn’t say no, so instead of running, we had a nice big dinner at Texas Roadhouse.

Thursday I woke up early and hit the treadmill.  61 minutes / 7 miles (8:48 pace).  I ran most of it around a 9 m/m pace, but picked it up with some short tempo intervals (7:30 pace) during the last .5 miles.

Friday I hit the treadmill again.  45 minutes / 5.1 miles (8:52 pace).

Saturday I reluctantly hit the treadmill for my long run.  It was snowing and the roads were a mess, plus it was (not surprisingly) freezing cold.  So I sucked it up and got it done.  Just over 2 hours / 14 miles / 8:54 pace.  Afterwards, I went to Fellow FlowersDeclare it Day and set my 2014 goals (more on that later).  Then I danced the night away to my husband’s band.  That workout makes up for the Tuesday and Wednesday rest days, don’t you think?  🙂

I usually never wear high heels, but I did break out these sweet bad boys for Declare it Day!

Sunday it was still very cold (12 degrees; feels like 0), but the sun was out and the roads were okay.  Well, actually they were sort of a mess, but I got out there anyway.  40 minutes / 4.25 miles / 9:22 pace.

Total:  40.6 miles / 6 hours

Have a great week everyone.
