This week was all about trying to get used to early morning running again. I love getting my runs in during the wee hours, but I admit it is really hard to get acclimated to the early morning after several weeks of down time and sleeping in. It will take me at least two more weeks before I start waking up before my alarm, or feel even a tiny bit awake at 5:00 am, but you’ve got to start somewhere, right?
Monday was my rest day.
Tuesday I got up just before 5:00 to run. It was hard to get up because it was really dark and really cold (13 degrees). But once I got out there, it was awesome! The stars were shining, the air was crisp and it actually wasn’t too cold at all (thank you wind for not showing up). 5.2 miles (8:46 pace).
Wednesday I got up early once again, but it was a little warmer (24 degrees). It was absolutely gorgeous out – huge harvest moon and bright stars. It was so quiet and peaceful too. I was tired at the beginning and running rather slow, but by the end I was at a nice, brisk pace. 6.75 miles with 4 strides (8:51 pace).
Thursday I got up early to go to Chicago for work rather than running. I was completely exhausted as we were up all night with a sick child. Once I got back from Chicago, I had a ton of e-mails and phone calls to respond to. So rather than running, work took priority. Rest day.
Friday I was up bright and early again. It was 38 degrees (whoa-tropical!). Again I started out slow, but finished much faster. 6.8 miles with 4 strides (8:54 pace).
Saturday I got to sleep in – Yay! We also had a heat wave come through so I got to run in some very nice weather (50s!) – welcome December! I got in 10.5 miles (8:53 pace). My husband ran the last 3 miles with me. Revelations on this run: I had been running in my trainers WAY too long. Time to toss them… But bonus that I now wear the same size as my son and could wear his sweet new trainers. 🙂
Sunday I got up early to work, only to realize I had my schedule off for the day and needed to head out earlier than I had planned. Got in a quick one hour run – 6.7 miles (8:54 pace)
Total: 36 miles
