March means it is time for Shamrock Socks!
March means it is time for Shamrock Socks!

Another week of primarily treadmill running is in the books and let me tell you – this girl is ready for Spring!  We are forecast to get another 4-6″ of snow tomorrow though, so it looks like that isn’t happening any time soon.  Oh well, thanks to my trusty treadmill, I’ve been able to continue to get in some solid work.

Monday is my rest day, but I did my arm weights and core work.

Tuesday I was a bit time crunched for my workout as my husband had to leave super early for work.  To ensure I could get my workout in before the boys woke up, I had to cut back on my warm up and cool down a little.  But I did get the Fartlek work I had scheduled done.  14 minute warm up, then 5 x (2 minutes @ 6:40 pace; 1 minute recovery; 1 minute @ 6:40 pace; 30 secs recovery; 30 secs @ 6:40 pace; 30 secs recovery); cool down with 4 x 30 second pickups at 6:00 pace. All felt great.  50 minutes / 6.3 miles / 7:56 average pace.

Wednesday I ran my easy run and added the time I had to cut off of Tuesday’s run.  88 minutes / 10 miles / 8:49 pace.  I also did my arm weights and core work.

Thursday my tempo workout was on tap.  20 minute warm up (8:57); 10 minutes at 7:40; 2 min recovery; 10 minutes at 7:38; 2 minute recovery; 10 minutes at 7:33; 2 minute recovery; 20 minute cool down with 4 x 30 second pickups at 6:00 pace.  It was funny how easy this workout felt after doing 6:40s on Tuesday.  75 minutes / 9.1 miles / 8:15 average pace.

Friday was an easy run that I cut short as soon as my youngest son woke up because it was his birthday!  45 minutes / 5 miles / 8:56 pace.

Saturday I ran outside for the first time all week!  75 minutes / 8.5 miles / 8:53 average pace.  I finished the workout up with shoveling 6″ of packed snow off of the walkway and chipping away at all of the ice at the end of our driveway.  Man, I am over winter.

Sunday I had a long run on tap, but it was only 90 minutes.  I wanted to hit 50 miles for the week (because I am OCD when it comes to running numbers), so I added on a little more.  96 minutes / 11 miles / 8:46 average pace.

Total: 7 hours and 10 minutes / 50 miles

Have a great week, Salties.

  1. Oh man, I hear you! I looked at our long range forecast and for the next 3 weeks I saw a few 4_ degree highs and THAT’s IT! If I get a 50+ I can take the girls to the park and push them on the stroller on preschool days, but looks like I’m stuck on the mill 5+ days a week for a while, myself. Oh well. Soon we’ll be complaining about the heat index so we best bite our tongues 🙂 GREAT week of training!!!

    1. I know – I keep reminding myself of the impending heat before I allow myself to get too worked up about this overly long winter. 🙂 A rough training season means we get great race day weather though, right?
