Licorice’s Training & Pregnancy Log – Week 19

I don’t know what it was this week, but my need for sleep and rest took a big jump up. Maybe it was because I finished a week-long course of prednisone and had to adjust, or maybe it was that I was just pushing myself a bit too aggressively. Either way, naps became my friend.

19 weeks

I also developed quite the craving for Mexican food. It wasn’t a one-time intense desire, but rather a constant background thing. I didn’t even notice it myself until I realized that I’d had tacos for lunch two days in a row and still wanted more. Apparently the baby is a fan of spicy, beefy, cheesy things.

I’m not feeling any movement yet, but I’m sure that’ll start soon. At any rate, there’s definitely something growing in there and next week we’ll get to see what it is. We’re pretty excited about that.

For workouts this week, I stuck with the elliptical and spinning and ventured back into the pool for the first time in, well, a couple if years. The good news was that I didn’t feel physically awkward. I actually felt pretty comfortable and was able to get into a good rhythm fairly easily, which surprised me. However, I was totally sucking wind after a length and just couldn’t get it together for more than 50 yards. I’m hoping that’ll get better with practice, although I’m pretty handicapped by the fact that someone’s taking up my breathing room. Thanks, kid.

Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 3 miles on elliptical
Wednesday: 45 minute spin class
Thursday: Rest
Friday: 200 yard swim, 2 miles on elliptical
Saturday: Rest
Sunday: Rest

Totals: 5 miles on elliptical, 200 yards swimming, 45 min spinning

In a previous life, I worked on computers and spent all day sitting. Thanks to running, I've rebooted my career and am now a running and triathlon coach and soon-to-be physical therapist. I've also got the mind and spirit of an elite trapped in the body of a back-of-the-packer.
