Licorice’s Training Log – 12.2.12

Finally! A better week. I wouldn’t go so far as to call it good, but it’s a step up from the previous weeks. Perhaps because I finally gave myself a concrete goal: next year’s Eugene marathon. I’ve been thinking about it really hard for a while now, but mostly in the context of, “we’ll see how the next few weeks go, and then I’ll decide if I’m going to run it.” This week, I finally just decided to go for it and drew up a training plan. In addition to giving me a specific goal, it also gave me a specific way to get there, which is something I think I’ve been needing.

The view from my Monday run

Monday: 2.4 miles after class at Point Defiance Park.Love running here because it’s so gorgeous.

Tuesday: Rest

Wednesday: 2.4 miles in the morning. I’m always amazed with how good these morning runs feel. I wish I could bottle it and then sniff a wee bit of it when the alarm goes off and I don’t want to get up early and run.

Thursday: Rest

Friday: 0. We had contractors in our house all day painting, which meant I couldn’t get to my running clothes to actually get out during the day. Sure, I could have gone once they were done, but it was completely dark and pouring rain by then, so… no.

Saturday: 0. Spent the morning watching my Girls on the Run team do their 5k instead of running my own. Totally worth it.

In a previous life, I worked on computers and spent all day sitting. Thanks to running, I've rebooted my career and am now a running and triathlon coach and soon-to-be physical therapist. I've also got the mind and spirit of an elite trapped in the body of a back-of-the-packer.
