Licorice’s Pregnancy & Training Log – Week 32

Wow. Things are definitely getting into the homestretch now, as I discovered when I left my doctor appointment this week and realized I’d be back in two weeks instead of four. We also finished up our labor and delivery class with a tour of the hospital’s birthing and maternity center, and that’s when it really hit me that I am having a baby, and sooner rather than later. Crazy, crazy stuff.

The pre-pregnancy football t-shirt still fits! Mostly. Sort of.

As far as exercise this week, I was in a really good groove. I also spent the weekend in a workshop on teaching yoga to athletes, which included a bunch of (heavily modified) bonus yoga on Saturday. Surprisingly, I didn’t spend all of my free time sleeping. In fact, it appears that I no longer sleep between the hours of 3 and 6 a.m., which is incredibly frustrating. I’m trying to roll with it and will usually get up and read, knit and/or watch TV during those hours, but the truth is that I’d really, really like to just sleep through the night while I still can.

Monday: 1.8 mile walk

Tuesday: 6×25 swim + 30 minutes aquajogging

Wednesday AM: 1.8 mile walk

Wednesday PM: Prenatal yoga

Thursday: 8×25 swim + 30 minutes aquajogging

Friday: 1.9 mile walk

Saturday: Yoga for athletes workshop (core & legs)

Totals: 5.5 miles walking, 350 yards swimming, 60 minutes aquajogging

In a previous life, I worked on computers and spent all day sitting. Thanks to running, I've rebooted my career and am now a running and triathlon coach and soon-to-be physical therapist. I've also got the mind and spirit of an elite trapped in the body of a back-of-the-packer.

  1. You’re doing great! Almost there! I can’t believe how fast the time has gone. Do you think the sleeplessness is just stress, or is it related to physical discomfort, or hormones or what?

    1. Yeah, I’m going to go with a combination of all three of those things. The good news is I’ve been sleeping better this week, so I’ll take that while I can get it.
