Introducing Sassafras!

Sassy all sassified!

How can you not love a girl named, Sassafras She’s spunky. She’s dedicated. She’s focused on that all-important 4-hour marathon mark. And yes–you know it!–she’s Sassy! ย This native of the Buckeye State and current resident of the Bluegrass State (that’s Ohio and Kentucky for those not up on their state nicknames) was a competitive high school and college runner, but as happens a lot gave it up by her junior year after experiencing injury and burn-out.

And as also happens quite frequently (raise your hand if you can relate), got back into running several years after college in hopes of getting that healthy runner body back. And what started as a means of improving her health with the added benefit of fitting into her old pants, turned into a love of the sport. A bazillion half marathons and half-a-bazillion marathons (slight exaggeration) and two races in a tu-tu later, she’s as dedicated as ever to becoming the best runner she can be.

Sassy strikes a delicate balance between running and the rest of life and between two giant rocks sometimes, too.

But probably the thing we love most about Sassafras is that she’s not willing to compromise the quality of the rest of her life to achieve her running goals. She’s happily married to a non-runner and likes spending non-running time with him. She’s got a great career as a marketing specialist and enjoys doing other stuff like biking, hiking, hanging with her dog, cooking and going to New Kids on the Block concerts (I’ll let her explain that one). She’s all about the balance, baby! And that’s something we can all probably stand to work on improving just a tad.

So give a hearty Salty welcome to our 10th Salty blogger. Welcome to the Salty family, Sassy! We can’t wait to hear your stories and have your wisdom imparted on us!

Salty Running boss and mother of 3 little ones with PRs of 3:10:15 (26.2), 1:25:59 (13.1) and 18:15 (5k). I love to write about running culture, mental training, and fitting in a serious running habit with the rest of a busy life.
