Ginger’s Training Log – 11-30-14

This was the last full week of the Smart Coach Training Plan, round 2. It went well. I continued to feel stronger and I officially entered the indoor open 5k on December 5th. Thanksgiving was enjoyable as always, hanging with family, eating delicious food, and relaxing. We did not trot this year, opting to sleep in instead. However, we did engage in some pre-turkey calorie-burn. I also got to visit with these two cuties on Friday. My friends, Emily and Rick, were in town from Iowa to visit family in Ohio. Two and a half years ago, we were in Iowa celebrating their wedding. And in that time, there are now two new little additions to the family. Time flies!

Monday: Easy 3.2 mile night run

Tuesday: 6 miles with indoor track workout of 4 x 800 in 3:06, 3:17, 3:21, 3:17. I went out a bit too fast on the first one, thinking that hitting 3:16 pace was going to feel fast since I was doing 3:25s all summer. Well, I’m in better shape than I thought. I slowed it down intentionally and the 3:17 pace felt controlled and relaxed. I take this as a good sign for next Friday.

Wednesday: 5 miles at 8:42 pace on the treadmill.

Thursday: Easy 3 mile run outdoors with James.

Friday: 3 miles at 8:46 pace on the treadmill.

Saturday: 13 mile long run at 8:28 pace. I am really enjoying the treadmill for long runs as of late. It somehow goes by quicker and often feels like a meditation session due to the consistent pace. Except this week, I took things up a notch and ran the last three miles in 23:00, with the last mile in 7:25. This run made me feel hopeful enough to run a fast marathon someday.

Sunday: 3.1 miles easy night run with James.

Total: 36.3

I write about mindfulness, mental health, and the professional sport of running with the occasional poking fun at the sport. When I am not running, I'm either helping people as a counselor or trying to make them laugh as an amateur open mic comedian.
