I had a breakthrough race this week, today’s Canton Fall Classic 10K. The race went about as well as any race I’ve ever run in my life, I PR’d by four and a half minutes on a hilly course, and I placed 3rd overall female. But the thing that made me happiest about the race was I was able to push through some serious pain and fatigue in the final miles in a way I have never done before in a race. I will likely write more about going to “that place” in a post/race re-cap so I won’t go into a lot of detail here, but suffice it to say I’m making some significant mental gains and the physical seems to be following.
Here’s what my week of training looked like:
Monday: 40 minutes aqua with a min. every 5 at a “plus” pace
Tuesday: 6.2 miles – 50 minutes with 6 X 20 sec. strides
Wednesday: 4 miles easy (34:31) with 45 min strength
Thursday: 40 min aqua run – 10 min. warm-up – 8 X 1 min. p.e. 8 (hard), 1 min. recovery, 8 X 30 secs. p.e. of 9 (very hard) with a 1:30 recovery
Friday: 5 Miles easy (42:38) – 4 X 30 second strides, 30 mins. Strength
Sunday: 8.2 miles. Canton Fall Classic 10K. 1 mile easy warm-up, 4×15 sec strides. 10K in 44:16 (7:08/mile), 3rd overall female. 1 mile warm-down.
