Garlic’s Training Log 10.19.14

This week I did two more time trials with Coach Cathy, the 800m and the 200m, as part of our goal of trying to find my best distance.  I ran the 800m in 2:50 and the 200m in 33s, which interestingly correlated almost exactly with what would be predicted based on my recent mile time trial of 6:09.  This also correlates with a very slightly sub 21:00 5K, and a 75s 400m, indicating that though I may be slightly better at the sprints, I’m actually fairly consistent across the distances.  Coach Cathy was frank with me, telling me that though I have some speed, at the moment it isn’t national caliber but that she thinks I can improve a lot and she’s excited to help me do that.  I’m excited to do it too!

Other than that, this is what my training looked like this week:

Monday: 40 min elliptical, core and hip mobility

Tuesday: 6.1 miles (50:34) with 6 X 20 sec. strides

Wednesday:4 Miles (35:27) with 45 min strength

Thursday:4 miles – 3 mile easy warm-up, 1*800 in 2:50 (86, 84 seconds), jog lap and then 1*200 in 33s

Friday: 40 min. elliptical with 1 min. at comfortably hard pace every 5 minutes- core and hip mobility

Saturday: 5.75 miles – 50 minutes easy

Sunday: 8 miles -70 minutes – 2 mile warm-up. Then 3*1 mile @ 6:50 – 6:55 pace, with 1 mile jog recovery between mile repeats.   Actual splits: 6:42, 6:35, 6:48.  1 mile warm-down.
