Dill’s Training Log 07/17 thru 07/23

Annual Ferris Wheel Picture

It was a pretty good week as far as “New Year’s in July” goes.  I wasn’t looking to do a lot of running this week because I wanted to take two down weeks after the marathon.  I’ll start into my training plan next week.  For this week I wanted to focus on what I was eating and making sure to be active each day.  I’m not the healthiest eater.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m not hitting up the McDonald’s drive through every week or polishing off a box of twinkies each night, but you’re never going to hear me sharing my favorite Kale recipe with you.  I live under the assumption that life is short, I’m active and I eat what I want, within reason.  But every once in awhile when all of my pants are bursting at the seems and I realize how often I’m enjoying a beloved IPA and eating out, I know it’s time for a reality check.  Usually what I do is fire up the old myfitnesspal app.  Now don’t think I go all crazy counting calories and worrying if I ate 100 more calories than I was “supposed to.”  I don’t do that, but it does serve as a reality check, helping me realize that a serving of pasta is 1 cup, not the 4 cups I just ate.  It makes me think twice about having a night cap when I realize its an additional 200 empty calories that I don’t need.   It makes me want to cook in rather than get take out.  I’ll do this for just a little while til my habits are back on track and then I’ll stop til the next time my pants don’t fit.  So here’s what I did do.

Monday – swam 1800 yards.  Swimming exhausts me because I’m not very good at it, but I’m enjoying the challenge and the change of scenery.

Tuesday – I took a circuit training class that incorporated rowing machines followed by a Tabata class.  Met Turmeric for nice 4ish mile run.

Wednesday – rest day – Walked a total of 3 miles in the sweltering heat.  I was so sweaty I may as well have gone for a run.  I needed to park my car at the end of the home days parade route, get to the start of the race, march in the parade and then get back to the car.

Thursday – Late night easy 5 mile run on the treadmill.  I’ve been watching “Reign” on Netflix when I run and there are scenes that scare me, so I kept yelling out and closing my eyes while running on the treadmill.

Friday – I took a “RIPPED” class at the gym and went out with my sister to celebrate her 40th birthday!

Saturday – rest day, met my pregnant running buddy for breakfast instead of running and then spent the evening at the home days carnival with my girls.

Sunday – I was planning on doing 8-10.  I decided to not run at all and than was later inspired by my running group to squeeze in a quick 5 miles.

I'm a running mom of two little girls, who is busy balancing life, work and marathon training. It's always training season for me because I'm on a quest to run a marathon in every state, while constantly striving to be the best runner I can be. Running has led me to some great adventures and I always have a good story to share!
