Coriander’s Training Log: 8.25.13

My weeks are starting to feel like an old routine again. The only part that changes each week is the speed workouts. My coach has been mixing it up every week and each workout is harder than the last.

I’m also really itching to bump up the distance. My weekly mileage has been around the low 40’s lately and it’s starting to bug me that I’m not back up to the 70-80 mile weeks I had grown used to with 100 mile training. I know I don’t need to be training like that now with my upcoming races, but I miss it. The Akron Marathon is a month away and then I get to focus completely on the JFK 50 mile in November.

But before I get ahead of myself, here’s how last week went:

Monday: Rest. Much needed.

Tuesday: 8.5 mile tempo run. My first tempo run! I did a 20 minute warmup at a (really) slow pace, then 4 miles at an 8:37 average and a 25 minute cool down at a 9:29 average. I was nervous about this run because of the range I was supposed to run the tempo. I ended up killing it. I felt like I was working hard, but was still comfortable.

Wednesday: 4.5 miles easy. I had to work late, so I ran without the group. It was nice to just take it easy though and not worry about the pace of the group.

Thursday: 9 miles easy. I ran 7 miles on my own and looped back around to my house to run the last two with my boyfriend. After about a half mile, he didn’t want to run with me anymore, so I finished off the run on my own.

Friday: Rest/60 minute hot yoga class.

Saturday: 18 miles with my friend Erin. Erin has been one of my running partners for a while, but she had a baby almost five months ago. So Saturday was her longest run since the baby and mine since the 100 miler. We’re both training for Akron and I really cannot wait for the race!

Sunday: 5 mile recovery run on trails. I met up with a group of friends running trails who were running way longer than I did. They started with a short loop, so I went so I can run with my friends again. It sucked when I went back to the car and everyone else kept running. I felt left out, but I know I will be back soon.

Total: 45 miles.

Trail and 100 mile ultra runner who still loves a good road marathon every now and then. Lifetime Northeast Ohio resident that dreams of the mountains out west, but loves CLE too much. Sometimes a vegan, sometimes does yoga, always loves a good craft beer and post race donuts.
