Cinnamon’s Taper Crazies Training Log – 10.1.13

If only my brain felt so serene.
If only my brain felt so serene.

Oh my god. I’m running another marathon. Like for real. I’m running another whole marathon in just a few days, and I can’t back out. My Mom is driving six hours to be there.

I wish I could back out.

I have taper crazies. I had food poisoning last Thursday and Friday! I didn’t give up drinking for a month like I said I would. I didn’t stretch enough. I didn’t strength train. I didn’t ever get a massage, not once. And now I have to work all week. Thank goodness it’s prep and not actual shooting, so I won’t be on my feet for 14 hours each day.

I have taper crazies.

Nothing else in my life can happen until this marathon thing is over. There’s… there’s… I don’t know, like, pandemonium happening all around me, it seems. When I look at it closely, I see it’s just that the Earth is continuing to spin and life keeps going, but I just, like, can’t handle it. Not until the marathon is over. Put it off.

Shit, I forgot to send out my laundry! I need to do that today. I need my favorite shorts for race day! I don’t even know what shirt I’m going to wear! I haven’t even checked the weather yet! F**k! Is two Stinger Waffles going to be enough to feed me? I didn’t buy entry to the race-sponsored dinner because Mom insists that we’ll be able to get into a restaurant. What if we can’t?

I am panicking!

It’s just taper crazies.

My plan is to make three pace bands, because I really just have no idea what I’m going to feel like. No clue. Nobody told me that early fall races are hard like that because your heavy training is all in disgusting weather. Why didn’t anyone tell me that? Why didn’t I think of it??

So can I try for the 3:35? That was the goal. I’m making one pace band for 3:35. I’m making another for 3:40 and another for 3:45. If I run over a 3:45 I just don’t care, as long as I PR. My PR is 4:10:xx. I am trying for a ridiculous PR. What was I thinking!?

I need a massage.

Did I just feel my foot break? Is it broken?ย  No. Okay. Am I going to fall on the subway stairs?

  1. Omg that’s terrible that you got food poisoning! Hope you’re completely recovered ๐Ÿ™‚
And don’t worry, you’ll rock the marathon!

  2. Hahaha – is it terrible that I love this and think it is funny? Totally been there, girl. ๐Ÿ™‚ You need to chill out though. The hay is in the barn as they say. You’ve put in the work and you are ready to do this thing. Rest, get some extra sleep and get ready to kick some @ss out there on Sunday!

  3. It’s all about expectations. I remember trying to relax the week before my last marathon while being a sahm to two toddlers. Hahahahaha! Riiiiiiiiiiight. Not gonna happen. It seemed the more I expected to relax the more stressful everything around me became! You’re gone do great! Can’t wait!

  4. Holy cow, now I’m more freaked out about the taper than I am freaked that I decided to run 26.2…and it’s not even until next February!

I loved this post, by the way. The mental ping-pong was quite entertaining. I bet you did great ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Hi! I was wondering if you did the Wineglass Marathon in NY? If so, I’m the one who said “Hello, I read your blog!” around mile 8 or 9 or something (that race was a blur…and not because I was in the zone). I hope your mary went well! ๐Ÿ™‚
