My last race before succumbing to plantar fasciitis was March 8. I love to race and it’s been at least 10 years since I’ve gone more than a month or two without a race. I don’t care whether I’m in peak fitness or not, it’s just fun to join a bunch of people and challenge ourselves together.

Week ending 7.5.15:
52.7 miles in 8 runs. Ran twice on Thursday because I tripped and slammed into the ground after a half mile in the morning and had to limp back home. Running highlight of the week was a 12 mile long run with 3 miles tempo averaging 6:38 pace.

Week ending 7.12.15:

54.2 miles including a long run of 12.5 and my first 5k post-injury! Ran 19:45 for the win! Couldn’t find Patrick and JB afterward. Turned out they were in the back of the CRV eating chicken wings.

Week ending 7.19.15:
65.6 miles with a couple doubles. Ran a 5 mile tempo averaging 6:46 pace on Monday and a long run of 13.03 in very hot conditions Sunday before I was forced to quit due to a crazy storm. AND I raced a 5:25 mile! No idea how I pulled that off with just a handful of sub-7 miles under my belt in the last couple months!

Week ending 7.26.15:

JB ran his first race in July!

25.5 miles in 4 runs. Struggled with motivational issues midway through the week so I took a couple days off – gotta rest that “mental muscle” sometimes, too. Ended the week with an 18:53 5k despite a half-assed warmup and an untied shoe in the last mile. (How embarassing to mess upย shoe tying after 20 years of racing!) JB ran his first kids race!

I write about training from 5k to marathon, motherhood and competitive running, and the elite side of the sport. The 5k is my favorite race (16:56 PR) but I've got a score to settle with the marathon.
