Catnip’s training log – week ending 11/16/14

I’m posting this one late due to some computer issues, but better late than never, I hope.

Now that I’m done with my goal races for this season, my only plan now is to run what I feel like doing until my favorite holiday races, a Turkey Trot (of course) and the Holiday Hustle. Once December hits, I’ll take two weeks completely off (other than a bit of yoga – I’m not a fan of cross-training, especially when I am supposed to be letting my body rest).

Monday: 4.6 mi @ 8:41 pace in the morning, 3.6 miles @ 8:20 in the evening. Sometimes I really do feel like running twice! Felt great today.

Tuesday: off. JB took forever to fall asleep so I read a book and drank tea before putting myself to bed.

Wednesday: 6 miles at 7:40 overall average with 20 minutes tempo averaging 6:32 pace. Expected that pace to feel easy and when it didn’t, the workout became a mental challenge. Good practice, though. An hour of yoga in the evening.

Thursday: off

Friday: 6.5 @ 8:42 pace after a good checkup with the doctor.

Saturday: 8 miles untimed with a good friend. Great run — then breakfast!

Sunday: 10.1 miles @ 8:34 on hilly trails. Did 5x strides on flat pavement. Felt great! Need more trail runs in my life. And probably hills, too.

total: 38.8 miles. Not bad for 4 days!

I'm a 20-year veteran of competitive running, USATF certified coach, mom of a toddler -- and still trying to set PRs. I write about training from 5k to marathon, motherhood and competitive running, and the elite side of the sport. The 5k is my favorite race (16:56 PR) but I've got a score to settle with the marathon.
