Barley’s Training Log 9/5-9/11/16

This week was more of an extension of last week, as we were still away (and off of work) Monday and Tuesday. Sunday after that half marathon I ran, we drove to my family cabin in the 1000 Islands for some R&R with my parents. I was SO glad we both decided to take Tuesday off as well- which allowed us to really relax more and spend time NOT working. Though, this made returning to work on Wednesday rather tough, and my motivation the rest of the week was a bit of roller coaster.

I had 2 workouts for the week, relatively close together but both went well. The 200’s were done in stupid heat/humidity (literally, 90 degrees and “feels like 94” because it was so humid I could smell the rain- that never came until way later in evening), but I hit paces and felt good so can’t complain toooooo much. Saturday’s 13 mile run with MP miles had me on edge a bit. I have emotional moments occasionally (it happens), and Friday night/Saturday morning was struggling with that. I opted to do the workout on the treadmill because I needed some sense of control (anyone else ever feel that way?). I averaged 6:53 for the 6 MP miles (3 x 2 mile with .5 recovery), which was a good starting point as we head into the fall I think.

Saturday afternoon was more running related, but a throwback to my college days. My former college track coach retired a few months ago and was to be inducted into the Hall of Fame for the school. In addition to that, the HOF decided to honor the 2000 Men’s National Champion team, and the 2007 Women’s National Champion team (my team). It was a fun day reminiscing with old teammates and being there for coach on his big day. Felt so strange to be back there though!
