Barley’s Buffalo Marathon Training Log Week 12

This was a week of finding balance between recovering from last weeks half marathon but also keeping momentum in marathon training. This meant mostly easy miles, and a TOF long run but one workout mixed in as well.

I was BEYOND excited and happy to get out for two stroller runs this week, looking forward to many more miles that way now that the weather is turning. My key workouts for the week were Wednesday and Saturday and both went off pretty well even coming off of the half. I made a point to practice race fueling for both (I’ve started using Maurten before – I used GenUCAN Prior, but trying something new this cycle).

Wednesday’sย workout was good form focus and also some good race prep for various weather conditions- there was wind and rain, and when the rain stopped it was humid and I took the chance to embrace it knowing there’s always that possibility for Buffalo.

Saturday’s long run was a rarity for me in the sense that I don’t usually have an alarm that starts with 3 unless it’s race day, and even then…. But I did it and was up around 3:45 and started my long run by 4:28 AM. With Hannah’s party that day and her Birthday the next day this timing made the most sense even if I did have to get up at stupid-o-clock. In the end it went well and found a good groove even in the colder dark morning miles after I got going, it turned out to be a great morning and the last half of the run was good balmy morning race conditions prep.

The rest of the weekend was spent celebrating our girl and I couldn’t have been happier. We had a low key party on Saturday with family and friends, and Sunday was spent just the three of us celebrating (and relaxing). I don’t know where the last year has gone, I’m sad and excited thinking about it. So much good to come, but yes it truly does go THAT fast.
