Barley’s Boston ’16 Training Week 2

After a first week of training that didn’t go as planned, of course I had to follow it up with another off week. Because, that is part of life. Admittedly being sick the first week week and then some other personal health stuff this past week really took the wind out of my sails mentally. Even writing that out makes me feel better about it, instead of trying to pretend everything was A-ok. In reality, I’m fine and I still had decent runs for these two weeks. I just really want to feel like I’m “training” again and I haven’t felt that way. I also haven’t been able to find my groove with routine (in work and life..) which isn’t like me, so something I made a point to try and work on. Life, right?

I’m lucky that I have good friends to talk to, understanding editors (*cough* Salty & Cinnamon), and a boyfriend willing to pick up the slack a bit for me. Also, a boyfriend who laughs at me when I ask if I can just have bacon for dinner but then proceeds to still make it for me. Though, he did convince me to put said bacon into a wrap with veggies and not just eat it like candy. So yeah, that happened.

Running and training this past week? Well, I got a decent amount of easy miles in as well as two workouts. The first workout was a hill workout in 20 degrees, 20 mile per hour winds, and I was chasing the sunlight into the darkness but it was successful. The second workout was a 12 x 1 minute hard (avg. 5:30) that I actually loved. I ran loops around my neighborhood so I wouldn’t have to stop for road crossings or deal with high traffic. I then finished the week with an easy 90 minutes for a “long” run.

I’m trying not to let the first 2 weeks of training dictate how I feel about the rest of the cycle. It’s been a mental game, with some physical road blocks but nothing that is long term. I feel better this week and in general just more like myself (thank goodness!).  I still have some ducks to get back in a row, but nothing a little time and patience won’t take care of.

Week Totals: 46 miles

Beers Drank: Guinness, Magic Hat Single Chair, Polygamy Porter, Victory at Sea
