Well, here we are with the first week of Boston training in the books. Fall absolutely FLEW, and now all of a sudden its time for winter training and grinding out miles for an April 18th start line.
Of course the week started with fighting a cold and hacking up a lung every 5 minutes. No one wants to end their first week of a training cycle having taken 2 unplanned rest days. BUT, I do think it was the smart thing to do and I don’t regret it. By the weekend, my energy levels were back up and my cough was much less annoying than during the week. I’d rather take the time now, then get worse and have to deal with it longer.
Saturday went ahead as planned, for the second Freezeroo race of the season for me. I’m happy with how the race went, I mean I had no reason not to be. Two great friends came for the night before and the morning of the race, so that was good enough for me. I felt strong during the race though even with the wind and some minor hills. I nabbed a PR and the win which was obviously a good feeling- and a great way to start the year. So maybe the first week of Boston training didn’t go as planned, but it ended better than it started and the motivation is flowing.
Monday: 45 Minute easy treadmill run + 13 minutes core/yoga + Self Massage w/ Addaday Roller
Tuesday: 8 Mile treadmill progression (8:20 down to 6:20, 7:08 avg.)
Wednesday: 5 recovery miles + strides
Thursday: Unplanned rest day: sick
Friday: Unplanned rest day: sick
Saturday: (AM) Warm-up, 5 mile race 31:10, cool-down (PM) 30 Minutes biking at gym + 25 minutes Upper body & core strength
Sunday: 16.2 Mile Treadmill long run (easy paced) + 12 minutes Yoga
Week Totals: 44.1 Running Miles, 1 Bike session, 3 Fitness Sessions
