Barberry Training Log 8/20-8/26

This week was another busy one! The weather was a little funky this week again. We had some beautiful days, some rain and lightning, and now the heat has returned. I could have done without the heat returning. As I get bigger, I am getting warmer. I am usually not one to be warm! We had our 24 week appointment this week, and that went well. I am measuring right on track (for what that may be worth), and baby has a strong heartbeat. Right now, the most uncomfortable thing I am experiencing is probably the increasing heartburn. I had a successful week of wearing maternity pants. I must admit, they do make things a little bit easier… especially with going to the bathroom! Here is a look at my adventures this week!

8/20 – No big exercise done today. Monday’s have become a rest day for me now it seems!

8/21- After work, my husband and I went for a walk around the neighborhood. He graciously offers to come along with me despite his hatred for just walking! We walked for 2 miles. It felt so nice outside, almost like an early fall day. There was a great breeze, so many neighbors were outside. It was great!

8/22 – The Rec Center was closed this week for its yearly maintenance, so I changed up my route today. I decided to run around a local park and some of the trails near that. I did 4.5 miles at a pace of 10:52 min/mi with walk breaks. I continued trying to run about a mile or .9 miles and then walking a tenth of a mile. The weather was pretty nice, we haven’t hit our warm up yet! Since the Rec Center was closed, I ended up doing some strength moves at the park. I used a bench to do push ups and tricep dips, and did some lunges, squats, and stretching. It was a nice change of pace.

8/23- After work tonight, we did The Office trivia at the local Irish pub. We came in 5th place out of all of the groups, hoping to move up next week and get one of those gift cards … for food :)

8/24- I dedicated my run this morning to Mollie Tibbetts and #milesforMollie. It is heartbreaking to know a young lady full of life and potential lost her life while she was out for a run. Women should not have to be afraid while running. We shouldn’t have to look over our shoulders, wonder if someone is following us too closely for too long, or feel like we have to carry personal protection equipment. We shouldn’t have to discount running at certain times of the day because they are deemed unsafe. We shouldn’t, but we do. It is something my husband and other male friends don’t have to think about, and I envy them for that.  Baby girl and I ran 3 miles at an 11:00 min/mi pace with walk breaks. I hope to help make this world a place where my little girl will feel safe doing the things she loves doing.

8/25- I woke up this morning to heavy rain and lightning. I could have braved the rain, but the lightning made me scrap doing anything outside. I decided to do a 3 mile walk on treadmill, taking a break to do various strength moves every half mile. I did some deadlifts, lunges, squats, rows, and presses. Overall, it turned out to be a good workout despite the fact that it was not my original plan!

8/26- Since I did not get my run in yesterday, I ended up getting it in this morning. It is hot again. And humid. Really humid. I did 4 miles in 10:49 min/mi pace with walk breaks. My first mile was the toughest, I had to take 2 walk breaks to get my legs going. After that, I felt better and continued the tenth of a mile walk break thing. I ran into a gal I used to play soccer with, running by with her baby in a running stroller. She is a great athlete and runner. We chatted for a little bit, and she gave me some good words of encouragement. I was definitely inspired by her post-baby running, especially as my paces slow down!

This warm up in temperatures is definitely making me look forward to fall and cooler weather! Despite my slowing paces, I still feel pretty good with running. I can still go 3-4 miles without a bathroom break for the most part! Since my torso is short, I feel like baby alternates between pushing on my bladder and pushing on my diaphragm! I haven’t had any major aches and pains during or after running, though. I only really get achy hips with laying on my side for too long. My special pillow has helped with that for sleeping. I get occasional round ligament pain from the ligaments stretching due to my growing belly. We’ll keep going!
