Barberry Training Log 7/9-7/15

Another week has come and gone! It started off as a slow week activity-wise, but super busy work-wise! Holy cow, patients are coming in from all corners of the town.  Baby Barberry has really been kicking the growth into high gear, so I am starting to show more. My pants are getting tighter and I am about to the using the belly-band phase of pregnancy. I have gained a few more pounds in the last week, and this is contributing to my continuing slow down! I keep plodding forward!

7/9 – Nothing! A long day at work that kept me on my feet the whole day! I was hoping to get in a walk after work, but it just did not work out. Plus, I was tired!

7/10 – I did not do what has become my typical Tuesday new evening walk. My mom had her knee replaced today, so I went to visit her at the hospital instead! She was doing well, and has continued to do pretty well this week despite the pain blocking wearing a few days off after surgery! Typically people feel pretty good that first day or two, then are very sore after that when the block is worn off. I have been keeping an eye on her and am making sure she is doing her PT exercises!

7/11 – Finally motivated myself to get my workout on! I did a 4 mile run, 3 of which were with my running buddy, Danielle! She did not mind my need for walk breaks :) 4 mile were done at a 11:18 min/mi pace with the walk breaks. After running, I did a strength training workout at the Rec Center. I did lots of lunges, forward and reverse. I did some body weight squats, rows, presses, bicep curls, and deadlifts. Just trying to keep these muscles strong for delivery and taking care of a baby down the line. I also did 15 minutes on the stationary bike. I think I made up for my lack of movement the previous few days.

7/12 – I was a little sore from the strength training yesterday, but not the worst it has been after a strength workout! I went for a walk in the evening after work. I ended up walking around 2.5 miles through the neighborhood. It was warm, but not too bad in the evening.

7/13 – Early morning run before work. 3 miles done at 10:45 min/mi pace. Walked 1 minute after each mile. I am getting to the point where I have to pee about 3 miles into a run, so runs longer than 4 miles typically include a potty break. I am feeling more pressure on my bladder! Again, my average paces are slowing down more and more. The summer heat and humidity are contributing along with that baby weight gain.

7/14 – I did not do my Saturday morning run, I went to a beginning fiction writing class instead! I really enjoyed this and it forced me out of my comfort zone! Writing is a release and a creative outlet for me from the world of science and anatomy, and I am trying to do more of this. I ended up going to the gym later in the afternoon. I rode the stationary bike for 25 minutes, and then walked around the indoor track for 2 miles. It was too hot in the afternoon to do any of these outside!

7/15 – I ran this morning, another sticky and warm morning. 3 miles completed at a 10:29 min/mi pace. I ran almost 2 of those miles with my sweet husband. He graciously slowed down his pace for me and even went on my 2 minute walk break with me in the middle of the run. Having him there did help me get through the run a little easier!

It’s been a good, but busy, week! Here is to the next one! Also, my cover photo is from me last summer sitting along the Seine River – in honor of France winning the World Cup!
