Well, it was nice knowing you brief respite from the heat. You have come back with an angry, angry vengeance. Heat. Humidity. Hellfire. All of those H words are appropriate for the last few days. It was a busy week, too, with lots of social activities on the calendar in the evening this week.
6/25 – Wow. My legs are so sore from the strength workout yesterday. I’m talking like hard to go downstairs and hard to sit on a toilet sore. I felt like I knelt or bent down way more frequently today at work, but that was probably just because my quadriceps screamed at me every single time I did it.
6/26 – Went for a walk after work. It was a pretty pleasant evening, the weather hadn’t turned quite yet. I walked 2.5 miles around the neighborhood. My iTunes playlist shuffle was on point tonight. I would consider this a successful evening after a very weird day at work!
6/27 – I ran while it was still early enough that it hadn’t gotten too hot yet. I ran 4 miles at a 10:20 per mile pace, with one walk break just after 2 miles. I did not feel too bad. I have been getting terrible sleep all this week, waking up 4-5 times a night because of my hips aching. They don’t give me any problem during the day, just sleeping on my side at night!
6/28 – No workouts today. I had a long day at work, followed by a going away dinner for a co-worker after work!
6/29 – Early morning run before work. It was already in the 70’s with high humidity at that point, so it was a little bit swampy out. I ran 3 miles at 10:27 min/mi pace. Then I dropped my car off at my mechanic’s garage because my air conditioner needed a re-charge. Oh man, I would not have survived the rest of this weekend without it. It was just blowing hot air out on me! This cool air was definitely a miracle!
6/30 – Another hot one! Super hot. Already in the high 70’s in the morning with heat index in the mid-80’s. Decided to take it easy and do walk breaks about every mile and made a water stop in the middle of the run. I found the shadiest trail in town and ran on that. That made a huge difference! Ran 5 miles at 10:34 min/mi.
7/1 – I did a strength training workout video on YouTube again. I decided to try the same one I did last week and see if I get just as sore tomorrow and Tuesday after it! It was 30 minutes of total body strengthening, then I followed it with about 10 minutes of gentle stretching.
This upcoming weekend, I am doing a quarter marathon women’s trail run. I am pretty excited about that! I haven’t gotten out on any non-paved trails for awhile, so it will be fun for another change in scenery. Plus, there are cupcakes at the end of the race. That’s worth the race entry fee alone!
