Barberry Training Log 5/28 – 6/3

Cheers to another week, Salty friends! Working on slowly building a little more mileage back up for some of my longer runs. Here goes nothing!

5/28 – Another steamy Memorial Day/Memorial Day Weekend for us here in Indiana! Very rarely is this weekend comfortable temperature-wise for some reason! This is a holiday we get off of work, so my husband and I both had the day off. I got in 4 miles … hot miles… at a 10:22 min/mi pace. I had a short walk break in the middle (about 2 minutes after mile 2) to cool down some! Definitely sat in front of the portable fan for awhile after this run, it was one of those sticky, swampy, sweaty runs!

5/29 – No significant activity except for a 10 minute walk at lunch time!

5/30 – Today was a busy workout day! I ran 3 miles to our local Rec Center (10:29 min/mi pace) on a another humid morning! My legs felt a little heavy in the first mile. I tried a heel cup in my shoe for the first time (one thing I have not done for this yet!). I didn’t notice too much difference in that first mile, but I felt less discomfort after the run than I normally do. I will have to keep working with it to see if it gives me any long term benefit. I did a yoga class with my friend, Danielle. We did a lot of balance poses in this one. Just because I run, does not necessarily mean that I am a graceful and coordinated human being. I also did a little weightlifting after yoga. I worked on some reverse lunges, squats, deadlifts, rows, single leg bridges, clamshells, and planks! 2 days of strengthening in the last week, I’m on a roll :)

5/31 – Took it easy today, no activity. I did wear my heel cups in my shoes at work. I think they might have helped some. Usually standing and walking around all day at work recreates my heel pain. I didn’t feel too bad at the end of the day. I’m hopeful they will at least keep the pain down some.

6/1 – Holy moly! Where did May go? It’s already June! I had to go into work a little earlier this morning, so I did not get in as many miles as I would like to before work. I ran 2 miles at 10:27 min/mile pace. It was about 70 degrees with 95% humidity. I could definitely feel that humidity, it was pretty heavy. Also got in a 10 minute walk break at lunch.

6/2 – Today’s run was just as warm as yesterday, but not quite as humid. There was a little bit of a breeze on the first few miles, but pretty stale on the way back. Regardless, this is one of the best runs I’ve had in awhile. I did 5 miles in 10:05 min/mi pace. I had one walk break about halfway into the run. Today is neighborhood garage sale day, so I spent some of my time dodging drivers. Let me tell you, I consider neighborhood garage sale day to be one of the more dangerous days in my running calendar. One of the perks of suburban running, I guess!

6/3 – Hooray! Another strength training workout at home! Complete with my kitty friends to help me along. Worked on some hip, gluteal, quadriceps, and posture muscle strengthening.

So, overall, I did pretty good this week… for me and my ever changing energy levels! This next week is a busy week at work, hoping to get through it relatively unscathed! My birthday is this weekend and then we have a little vacation planned next week! Definitely needing that!
