This week started off by running some of the Chicago Marathon, got even better with a decent workout and ended with a gorgeous bike ride outdoors!
10/12: CHICAGO MARATHON! Well, not really. I was able to get a bib from a friend’s mom who couldn’t run. I had an early flight back, and the hotel was just a few blocks from the 20K mark. As much as I wanted to do a longer run, I went into this ‘race’ knowing that I hadn’t done a run longer than 13 miles in several months and I didn’t want to injure myself before my half ironman in November. So, 12-13 was plenty. I was in wave 2 and started off with an 8:20 mile taking in all of the sights. I wanted to get some up-tempo miles, but it became clear to me that given my starting corral, if I wanted to run a little harder, it would be more like a long fartlek workout. So, I sped up when I could and slowed when I had to. I ended up with some good splits and almost 12.7 on my Garmin, even though I dropped at the 20K mark. Splits: 8:20/7:31/7:1/7:04/7:09/7:12/6:49/6:36/6:54/7:01/6:49/6:55
I definitely want to do this race! And yes, running with more oxygen felt amazing! So much energy from the crowds and the runners. I foresee myself coming out of retirement to run this race sometime within the next 2-3 years!
10/13: Planned to ride 15-20 on the computrainer, but after 90 seconds into my ride, the screen just shut off! So, I just rode for an hour trying to keep a decent cadence. 1,750m swim in the evening.
10/14: Short brick. 45 minutes on the bike followed by 3 miles. Run #2 in the evening: 4.45 miles @ 35 minutes.
10/15: Got in a workout! 6.3 miles with 15 x 1 minute. My legs were trashed for the rest of the day. I did some light lifting in the evening and ran about 3.50 miles in 30 minutes. My legs felt 100x better!
10/16: Super tired in the morning, so I opted to run back to work after taking my dog home from work. My legs had some ‘pop’ to them, and I ended up with 3,5 miles in 26 minutes. Got in an hour ride on the trainer after work.
10/17: Weights followed by a super easy 30 minute run on the trails. Saw a bunch of deer! 1,100m swim after work.
10/18: Finally got to bike outside!!! Had to wait until 11:30 to head out since it was pretty chilly in the morning, but it warmed up to 60 with gorgeous sunshine! Got in close to 40 after doing some weights earlier in the morning. At 3:00, we joined some friends at the pool for our annual swim challenge of either 30, 60, 90 minutes non-stop. I had decided earlier in the week, I would attempt 2,500 non-stop, so just under an hour. I got back from my ride late and barely had enough time for a snack. I felt great after 1,250, then I got really hungry for the next 100, then I felt awesome at 2,000. I honestly thought I could go another 1,000, but that feeling last only for another 100 when I started to get hungry again and got spaghetti arms. I got through the next laps and made it 50–but those last 3 laps were tough! It’s been awhile since I swam that long non-stop!
Biking: 39.75 + 2hrs 45 mins
Swimming: 3.32 miles
Weight Training: 2+ hours
