Week 4 of marathon training went very well! The weeks are flying by, and so far I haven’t missed a run. All runs are still at easy pace, but I am adjusting well to 5 days a week of running and feeling ready to move to 6 days a week next week. I am grateful that this 18 week plan has a strong 5 weeks of base building- past plans I’ve used have lacked that element.
This coming week is the final week of base building and after that begins speed work and tempo runs. I am nervous and excited. It’s been a little while since I’ve had to push my pace, so there’s always that fear that I won’t be able to do the workouts prescribed. I know I’ll be fine, though! Right now, I’m just taking it one run at a time and trying not to get ahead of myself. The weather this next week is supposed to be much warmer (mid 30’s), so I hope to get outside a bit! I’m heading out of town next weekend, but already have a plan in place to get my runs in!
Here’s how last week looked:
Monday 2.8.16: off
Tuesday 2.9.16: Easy 4 on the treadmill. A busy day meant I didn’t get on the treadmill till my kids went to bed at 8p. I felt annoyed during this run, and was just in general feeling tired of treadmill running. Was glad when I was done! Later on, I wrote down my mileage and discovered that I was actually supposed to run 5 miles. Ooops. Added a mile to a run later in the week to make up for it.
Wednesday 2.10.16: Off
Thursday 2.11.16: 4 miles total. Had some juggling to do with my kids after work, as the hubby had plans for the night. Ran 2 miles after work, picked up the children, dropped my daughter off at ballet class and dropped my son off in the kids gym at the Y, and ran my other 2 miles.
Friday 2.12.16: Easy 3 on the treadmill.
Saturday 2.13.16: Easy 5 miles. Tired of the treadmill, and -20 wind chills outside, I decided to run laps at the Sports Arena. Running 40+ laps around a hockey rink can be a little mind numbing, but it’s a nice alternative to treadmill running. The hockey rink means it’s nice and cool, and with Fargo marathon training in full swing around here, there were plenty of other people running laps that morning.
Sunday 2.14.16: Easy 5 miles, again at the Sports Arena. There were lots of hockey people milling about and standing in the middle of the track, which made for some interesting near crashes into people.
Total miles: 21
