Our most recent question came from Amanda:

Just curious of your choice (brand/style) of underwear for running?
I’m struggling with finding the right one and want to make the best
choice since they are not cheap.

Great question, Amanda!

We all want to feel comfortable while running, and there’s no reason why we shouldn’t feel comfortable in that area as well.  For me personally, along with some other women I know, go commando with spandex shorts or tights (unless we bought them at lululemon!). If we’re wearing running shorts with liners, the liner is the underwear. That said, if you are looking for a good running undie, here are  our suggestions.

1).  UnderArmour:  The ‘Pure Stretch’ thong and boy short are $12 each and come in a variety of colors.  UA also makes ‘boy shorts’ for $20. (I have worn the ‘Pure Stretch’, and I find it very comfortable)!

2)  Athleta:  Most of Athleta’s underwear offerings are seemless, and come in different styles such as boyshorts, bikinis and thongs.  The thongs do tend to run small in size.  Prices range from $15-$20.

3) Oiselle;  If you want something fun, check out the Oiselle seven-day undie pack, which has a different theme for each type of run:  tempo, rest, track.  A pack of 7 is $65.

4).  Moving Comfort:  Bikini and hipster styles are both available, which are both very comfortable and feel light.  (Personally, I do wear the bikinis when I do wear undies).  Running Warehouse offers these styles for either $16 (bikini) or $18 (hispters).  As an added bonus, Running Warehouse offers free two-day shipping with no minimum purchase!

Thanks again for your question !  Hopefully, these suggestions are helpful.  If anyone has any other underwear suggestions, please let us know!

  1. I’ll have to look into these. I’ve been looking for running underwear for a long time because for some reason I don’t like how it feels going commando or just using the lining…I’m a weirdo I know

    1. I use the liner in my shorts/skirts, but can’t bring myself to go commando in tights. Maybe if I had more than one pair of tights? I really need new tights, mine are from 2001 and the reflective spots are wearing off, but I have yet to find a suitable replacement/addition.
