Salty’s Training Log – 3.19.17

F it. I’m writing a training log. I can’t imagine anyone gets much out of my logs lately as I’m just running to run. But, maybe you do?

If I’m being honest, it’s kinda hard to log training when you’re not training. It’s been almost two years since I stopped training and got real about running in my life, accepted I was overtrained and that my relationship with running was all kinds of screwed up. Since then, I’ve been in running limbo. Still a serious runner deep in my heart, but one who cannot make goals, or really train, or race with intention, without slipping down the proverbial slope. And I feel like that makes me kinda uninteresting at best and whiney at worst.

But I also feel like I’m growing as a runner and a person. It’s a long process to go from hard-charging Type-A-my-life-revolves-around-running-even-though-I say-it-doesn’t person, to a person who runs. So in between working a lot on the site, and taking care of my family, helping out with my various community activites, and finally getting the basement toy explosion under control, I ran.

What happens when you decide to do a training log but haven’t taken a picture of yourself in a long time and when you’re a nerd.

M – Trails were frozen, but clear so 8 miles with Jasmine. So nice!

T – snow day. Blerg.

W – Snow day, but husband worked from home so snuck in 7 miles in an hour.

R – Off.

F – 8 with fartlek: 5 x 1:00/1:00 + 5:00/2:00 + 3:00/2:00 + 2:00/2:00 + 1:00/1:00 + 4 x :30/:90

Sa – 7 easy.

Su – 12 with Mina. Since it was just us old ladies, we kept it easy. Sciatic nerve pain on the right side bugging pretty bad for the first few miles though. Ugh.

Salty Running boss and mother of 3 little ones with PRs of 3:10:15 (26.2), 1:25:59 (13.1) and 18:15 (5k). I love to write about running culture, mental training, and fitting in a serious running habit with the rest of a busy life.

  1. Haha, you’re cute. You’re still a Type A, just that your energies have been diverted slightly from running towards Salty Running, family stuff, and community. (I say this, as a fellow Type A…) Sometimes it’s nice to…just run, and run however far and fast your heart desires. There are no ‘should’s in running.

    1. Thanks, Mango! It has been nice to just run. I am not 100% un-OCD about it, but better for sure and it’s much less psychically draining at this level of involvement than my previous levels. Like anyone, I’m a work in progress 🙂

  2. You’re doing workouts- I consider that training, not just running! So you haven’t given it up completely? Or you just like doing workouts for the fun of it?
