You probably heard about Dennis Kimetto’s 2:02:57 world record marathon performance in Berlin this fall, but two more world records that were set last month may have escaped your attention: Michal Kapral set a new joggling (that’s juggling and running at the same time!) record, joggling to a 1:20:40 half marathon finish and Julia Webb recently ran 38:15 pushing a (borrowed) baby in a stroller for 10k. Wow!
Here at Salty Running we are proud to say that we are friends already with TWO world record holders: Camille Herron, fastest superhero marathoner, and Nichole Porath, fastest indoor marathoner, but we’re always looking to meet more. (Hey, Dennis, Michal, and Julia — wanna be friends?)
Non-world record-holders, don’t worry — we still love you! And if you have any ambitions of joining that select group, here are 5 world records that were made to be broken.
1. Fastest marathon carrying an egg on a spoon – Dale Lyons, 3:47. Runners with a smooth, low shuffling stride might have the best luck with this one.

2. Longest crochet chain while running a marathon – Susie Hewer, 457 feet. Slower runners might have a better shot at this record than the speedsters — Susie spent 5:40 on the London Marathon course to set this record. Gotta keep that crochet:miles ratio high!
3. Fastest half marathon dressed as a fruit – Joanne Singleton, 1:35. When purchasing your banana costume, please remember to click through our Amazon affiliate link to help support site operations! Make sure to send us photos of your attempt.
4. Most family members to complete a marathon – Oshamu Shoju, 3 daughters, and 4 grandchildren. This just warms my little heart!
5. Fastest 10k sack race – Ashrita Furman, 1:22. OK, this is not running, but perhaps running fitness would carry over.
What do you say, Salty Readers? Anyone inspired to take a shot?
That crochet marathon is crazy! I can hardly crochet sitting still
Yes, it’s pretty impressive! I also think many runners end up as runners due to lack of coordination for other sports so it really takes a special person to run + crochet!
Thank you for creating my ToDo list. 🙂
So which one is up first? 😉
And don’t forget the new women’s world record in the Beer Mile, set by Chris Kimbrough in 6:28.6! http://tinyurl.com/kf5h3bj
Oh no! That one definitely deserved to be mentioned. I am very impressed! Best I calculate is ~15sec/beer x4 so that means she ran 4x400m in 80+ sec with a ton of liquid in her belly!
Done! I run with Teagan – new blogger and she introduce me to your site! Excited to read and be friends 🙂 The record was really fun to set especially with such a big cushion- allowed me to really enjoy the process of the race and smell the roses a little 🙂 I’m confident it may be broken again soon.. Like your title states- just need more women to challenge it!
Yeah! Thanks, Julia! Can’t wait to hear more about it and you 😉
Yay! So glad you stopped by here. Congrats on the record – seriously impressive! I hope you do go after the half marathon.
Yes, let’s be friends!
Love it! Congrats on your record, Michal!
Thanks! I don’t think I’ll be breaking any of those other records anytime soon, although it’s almost worth going after the 10K sack race record just to generate the headline, “In the Bag.”
Sweet! Thanks for stopping by! I guess I have always stereotyped runners as being fairly uncoordinated (maybe that’s just me?) so it’s hard for me get my mind around joggling! Haha!
