It’s the week after Chicago Marathon, so it should have been a recovery week…and it was, but when you are trying to figure out if you’re going to try again for time in a few weeks, recovery seems different.
Monday – Drove home from Chicago, massage, swam 2,000 yards of drills.
Tuesday – Ran 3 miles with a guy in the training group and chatted. Nice change from the norm since I’m usually solo even when running with the group.
Wednesday – hour on the bike trainer, keeping it easy. Like not even 14 miles. Skipped the swim.
Thursday – ran early in Central Park (Carmel, Ind., not NYC) since it was a gray day and I didn’t want to play in traffic. Good run. Went to the chiro in the afternoon and my SI joint feels amazingly normal now.
Friday – swam 2,000 yards drill in the morning.
Saturday – this was basically the go/no go on doing the marathon in a few weeks. I ran 12 miles, including 11 miles of “Indy Runners Run the Monon” long run (11 for half marathoners and 20 for marathoners). Felt reasonably good and ran all 12, negative splits, and faster than marathon goal pace. I guess I am doing the marathon. (Indy Monumental on Nov. 5)
Sunday – totally skipped out on my ride. Ate waffles for breakfast. Drove to Louisville and volunteered on the Ironman Louisville bike course. Drove home. Gone for a solid 12 hours. More in love with Ironman than ever.
Some big scary things in the next few weeks … trying for time in another marathon and registering for Ironman Louisville 2018. Breathe in. Breathe out. I will do this.
