A training log. Wow. What’s that?!
Kidding. BUT. I have no idea what I’m training for! I’m just out there logging miles, in hopes that the perfect race opportunity will present itself to me. There are no long distance races here in Andalucia until November, and even then, I don’t think I will be able to race a half, which is my goal. I am looking at some set in the Spanish winter, and you will be the first to know when I make a choice! For now, I’m trying to establish a solid base once more, so that I will be ready to train hard when the time is right. I would like to train to beat 1:50 in the half marathon distance, and between now and then practice with some shorter distance races, ideally 5-10ks. We shall see!
Last week began with a hike in the mountains of Malaga, a new area I discovered with my bf. The climb was vicious. I was actually sore the next day hahaha. There was little shade! At the end of the day, I don’t even think we hiked that far. I would guess 4 miles max. It was just all uphill, so it felt like an eternity. I can’t wait to go again!
Thanks to a shady Garmin, that apparently was in desperate need of a software update, I’ve been recording times only, occasionally pace and distance when it works.
Monday – off
Tuesday – 52 minutes total with hill repeats in the middle. Every Tuesday I run to the local castle (NBD) and run up the giant hill that it sits on. This week I broke the uphill workout into chunks of 4, 2, and 4 minutes. I think that if I consistently train, I’ll be able to run up the entire thing without stopping. It’s approximately a mile and a half total. Hmmmm. There’s a goal I can work toward! :P
Wednesday – 1 hour, super easy. Listened to Lindsey Hein’s podcast. It was fab.
Thursday – 5 mile fartlek with 1, 2, 3, 3, 2, 1 minutes at “marathon pace,” which is 8:30 despite my current lack of goal race
Friday – 3 easy miles.
Saturday – “Active recovery.” I took a beautiful morning walk around the city center and port with my American friend with a Frappucino in hand. Muahaha. Treat yoself. Later in the day I went swimming with my bf. The sea is still surprisingly warm, and the swim was really pleasant!
Sunday – 45 minute bike ride with bf. 70 minute run.
I’m in the perfect place to train for a tri. I often bike to the beach to go swimming after I’ve already run for the day. For heaven’s sake. I should just register already!
