I recently moved to Boulder, Colorado--the mecca of healthy lifestyle and endurance training. I love to run, tri, train, eat good chocolate, drink good rum, and laugh (a lot). I am a CPA by trade and work for Newton Running, headquartered in downtown Boulder!

This week had lots of highlights including my first half ironman of the summer and participating in a community service trip to South Dakota as part of One World Running.

6/15:  Boulder 70.3.  I wasn’t sure what to expect with this race given how I have been feeling recently, but I told myself that I would drop at the first sign of any struggle.  I ended up 5:38, just 8 minutes off my PR thanks to some bad headwinds on the bike and missing 2 buoys in the swim!  My overall goal was 5:45, so to come that far under was huge for me, and now I know what to work on going forward!

6/16:  Rest Day!  Yay!

6/17:  Rest Day!  Yay!

6/18:  3 miles easy in 24:46.  Had to do this on the treadmill since it was raining and very stormy.  Legs felt stiff at first, but warmed up after 5 minutes.

6/19:  Travel to South Dakota for the One World Running Trip.  Ten hours in the car, but a group of us wanted to go for a short run when we got to the hotel.  (Only a group of runners would want to run after a long car ride).  Ran easy for 30 minutes, but my Garmin died, so I estimated 3 miles.  Beautiful rolling dirt road in the fields of South Dakota.

6/20:  6.2 miles on the rolling dirt roads in South Dakota.  It was warm, sunny and only 1,500 ft!

6/21:  Estimated 10 miles as part of the Mother Earth trail race.  I guess you could consider this my very first trail race.  I served as a ‘sweeper’ and ran with a young woman for about 7 miles who had recently lost 52 lbs and was trying to become fit and set a good example for her children.  She was able to go 9 miles before she had to give in to awful blisters.

Weekly Totals:

Running:  35 miles

Biking: 60 miles

Swimming:  1.2 miles

Weights: Nada!

  1. Thanks for the link to OWR. Somehow, I don’t recall of reading about this organization anywhere.

It’s a great organization. They are at some race expos collecting shoes. It was definitely and eye-opening experience, and I learned a lot.
