An environmental consultant with a passion for running and its many facets including marathons, pacing, ultras and more. Chronic left side issues have me cycling more than running these days but I still think fondly of my efforts to be sub-elite a few years ago. Life is never boring and I trend toward the more outrageous in and outside of running. Who says you can't be a serious runner and ridiculous at the same time?

Well the week started off weak. falling a bit behind at work I sacrificed all free time on Monday and Tuesday working the day away. After that things picked up and I did a few doubles to feel better about only get in 5 days of training.

First official week of FIRST 18 week marathon training and my husband and I are both on target and even got in a bonus day (days for him) of easy running.

Monday-Rest

Tuesday-Rest

Wednesday- AM: 13.5 commute to work

PM: Bridge runwith 10 minute WU, 6*1 minute hard, 3 minute easy, 10 minute CD for a total of 44 minutes running. My buddy GP joined in the speedy fun and my husband played “garmin” updating us on our workout schedule throughout.

Thursday- Easy 30 minute run with my husband.

Friday- 8 mile run solo around 8 minute pace in the AM. Probably faster than the FIRST plan intends, but it felt nice to run a bit longer at my old easy pace for the first time in a long time.

Saturday- Easy 16 miles on the bike riding with my sister and picking up groceries. Though I think I got in more of a work out switching out the bike pedals so she could ride my cross bike. There is a reason I am not a LBS mechanic.

Sunday- Masters swim practice, about 3100 yards, and while my kick is still top notch I was informed my stroke is slow, not long enough, and that I don’t breathe enough :) Guess I have a few things I could work on in the pool this year.

Followed the pool workout with the third FIRST key run which was a 6 mile run with a 2 mile tempo in the middle between 10k and HM effort. I thought this would be pretty slow based on the warm up and pre run swim, but surprised myself with a 6:47 average. Not too shabby.

1 week down, 17 to go!
