This was my first official week of training in a loooooooong time. My coach sent me my schedule and I’ll admit that I felt giddy to have a real live training plan for the week! It’s amazing how being injured for a long time will make you appreciate little things like that. Anyway, the plan was to run every day this week, get in a fartlek, a 4 mile tempo and a 14 mile long run for 50-55 miles for the week. It all sounded slightly daunting considering what I’ve been doing, but I committed to it and took it one day at a time.
I had a super busy day on Monday, so I did my easy miles at 5:30 on the treadmill. My first time running before kid wakeups since before I was pregnant with my 3rd! Then on Tuesday, I had a funeral all morning and early afternoon. I didn’t get home until 4:45, but I ran inside threw my running clothes on and took off to squeeze in an hourish fartlek before dark. Wednesday, both my girls were sick, but it was 45 and sunny! We hit the park for some sunshine and fresh air. I pushed the stroller through slush and they relaxed and got to play at the nature center. Win-win!
On Thursday, I did my tempo on the treadmill at the Y. I had 4 at 6:50, which normally would be nothing, but I’ve hardly run any miles under 7:00. I started slow because I was scared if I went out too fast I wouldn’t be able to finish it. My first mile was about 7:00 pace, but then I kept going a little faster and by the end I averaged 6:51. Yeah! On Friday I had to attend my daughters gym class for the last 15 minutes, so I squeezed in 3 miles, played in gym class and then ran another 3. On Saturday, I went to my mom’s and got in a hilly, windy 6 while the kids were occupied. And then Sunday, I had 14 @ 7:30 on the schedule. Of all the runs, I was most worried about this one. I haven’t run that far since around Labor Day and I certainly haven’t run that fast for a long run in months. It went surprisingly great! I am really excited. I think I have some PRs in my near future!
Mon: I woke up early and got in 7 averaging around 8:20 pace.
Tue: Made it outside after a busy day right before it got dark. Did 7 averaging around 7:45 with 10 x 1:00 @ 5k effort with 2:00 easy in between.
Wed: 6 pushing both daughters through slush. 45 and sunny and soooooooo worth it to get outside!
Thu: 8 with 4 mile tempo averaging 6:51. First mile was around 7:00 pace and upped it until was running under 6:40 at the end, but that is crazy hard for me right now! I’ll be better about not being scared and starting a little quicker next time so I don’t have to go so fast at the end!
Fri: 6 easy at the Y. 3 before daughter’s class and then a 15 minute break to play with her during her last gym class of the session and then 3 miles after. Averaged about 8:10 for the whole shebang.
Sat: 6 hilly, windy miles from my mom’s house with no watch. Went out with some preschool moms the night before and had a glass and a half of wine and still felt crappy at 10:00 a.m. when I ran. I guess my drinking days are over!
Sun: 14 hilly miles averaging 7:31.
