Happy New Year!! My 2014 of running didn’t so much get off to a good start. I woke up sick on Christmas Eve and progressively got worse until the day before New Year’s Eve when I finally gave in and went to the doctor. I had a bad sinus infection and was told to take it easy with running and go by feel. And put that together with the fabulous weather we’ve been having in CLE and there hasn’t been a ton of running around here.

Monday: Planned rest/sick day.

Tuesday: Unplanned rest/still sick.

Wednesday: 5 miles in 47 minutes with my friend Erin. I had to work on New Year’s Day and convinced Erin to run with me after I was off. We had a nice, easy road run to celebrate the new year.

Thursday: Unplanned rest. I was still not feeling 100%, but got dressed to run anyway. Then I went outside and immediately went back inside. I’m not usually one to balk at the bad weather, but I didn’t want to make the sinus infection worse.

Friday: Planned rest day.

Saturday: 10 miles/1:47. It was freezing! I had 16 miles on the schedule and had planned to run 10 miles, stop at home for the bathroom and then head back out for 6 more. Usually I don’t do this, but since the park bathrooms I always use are closed, I thought this would be a good idea. It wasn’t. I was so cold when I got back home, there was no way I was going back out. Fail.

Sunday: 5 miles/48 minutes. It warmed up Sunday morning and I so wish I didn’t have to go to work or else I would’ve attempted the previous day’s long run again. But instead, I had a great, easy 5 miler. Finally a good run in the new year!

Total: 20 miles. I feel so lame, but more than ready to feel better and get back to regular training. My next race is March 8!

    Boo, sorry to hear that you were under the weather over the holidays, too. No fun! I have to disagree with you saying your long run was a fail and that 20 miles is lame. You were just barely over being sick, so go easy on yourself!

    I can’t wait to read about your 2014 races! Is the March race an ultra?
