Check it out. I called this a training log. Not a PT log, not an I’ve been doing nothing log. Nope, today I can report a decent base-building week. A pain-free decent base-building week.
This makes me one happy runner.
As many of you know, I have been struggling for months with not only injury, but also the drive to get back at it. Now that I (hopefully) have finally turned a corner, I am hoping everything will change. My mileage this week is relatively low compared to my normal training mileage, but we’ve all got to start somewhere, right?
Monday is my rest day.
Tuesday I ran 4 miles easy (9:07 pace) on slippery, snowy roads.
Wednesday (Christmas!) – I was hoping to run, but ended up cooking non-stop until my family arrived for our celebration. We had a wonderful time!
Thursday I was definitely motivated by my overindulgence of red wine and beef tenderloin. I logged 8 miles on the treadmill (8:50 pace). Later that night, we took our boys to a Harlem Globetrotters game. It was so much fun!
Friday I logged an hour easy (8:59 pace/6.7 miles) on the treadmill.
Saturday we had a bit of a heat wave! It was 35 degrees and the roads were mostly clear, so I took advantage of the opportunity and ran 10 miles (9:07 pace). TEN! I was pretty wicked chafed after 7, and admittedly a bit dehydrated by the time I got done, but I was so happy to have hit double digits again.
Sunday I was super happy that I had no soreness in my shoulder or legs (another story with the d@mn chafing). I ran 7 miles easy (9:00 pace) on the treadmill with a few pickups at the end at 7:30 pace.
Total: 35.7 miles.
My goal is to keep trying to string together a few pain-free base-building weeks. If I am able to pull that off, I am hoping to select a spring marathon and start working with my coach again in February.
Look out 2014. I am coming after you…
