Just a few days until the 5 month mark. It really is flying by. Baby is growing leaps and bounds and so are my big kiddos. They each got a pair of their first real running shoes and they call them their “really fast shoes.” It’s so cute. They wear them every chance they get to demonstrate how fast they are. This will get put to the test this coming weekend when they run a kids race! It will be their second kids race. The first one was last year and was a bit of a bust. This one should be better as they’ve both been talking about it every day since I told them about it 2 weeks ago!
As for the whole getting back into prebaby shape thing, well …
Things are going all right. While I have done virtually nothing in the speed department, my easy paces are dropping a lot lately. Sub-7s are coming naturally when I run outside. I feel like I’m definitely close to being ready to start training again. While I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t itching to get back it it right now! I have some reservations about jumping back in just yet.
My windows for getting runs in each day are still relatively small and the thought of having to run on any given day makes me picture feeling trapped by training. Another month and I’ll be closer to having a baby who sleeps well, particularly in the early hours of the morning which will give me one more opportunity to run on any given day. This combined with stroller running weather and the baby being old enough for child watch at the Y will help tremendously. Battling the tides to get running in, is not fun and does not lead to good results anyway. I’ll be patient and wait just a little longer until training fits more into the flow of my life.
Up this coming weekend? A 5k. We are very active at our local Y, so I want to participate in their race. It won’t be a PR and it might be a little embarrassing, but it will be fun with the kids running their race after!
