It hit me Thursday morning that it’s January and all of the talk about races and 2013 goals had me thinking about what races I want to spend my money on this year. My sub-4:00 marathon goal is set for the fall, but before that, I want to finish a 100-mile race. I’ve gone way back and forth with which one I want to do, but finally picked one! And it’s in 23 weeks!
So I put together a training plan for the next two months to start base building now and getting longer runs in over the next few weeks. I guess you can say this was my first week of 100 mile training!
Monday: 8.25 miles of trails. I went over to the park to run trails with a friend. We realized we have to make it a tradition to run on New Year’s Eve since we did the year before also.
Tuesday: Rest. NYE didn’t kick my butt, but I had to work all day long.
Wednesday: 4 miles at running club with Second Sole. First run of 2013 for both me and one of the faster guys I ran with. It was awesome to kick off another year running with my friends.
Thursday: 5 miles. Just did a short road run around the hood before work. Nothing fancy.
Friday: rest/one hour of yoga.
Saturday: 12 miles of trails in the CVNP. It was amazing to run long on the trails and not feel ANY knee pain!
Sunday: 11 miles of trails again. And still no knee pain! First weekend of back-to-back long runs is done!
Total: 40.25 miles.

Good luck with the 100 mile training! And….the sub 4!
