This week I was bound and determined to keep ramping up and getting myself into a good training place. However, I am at a tough point in training because:
1. I am still out of shape so it is hard to get motivated.
2. After sleeping in for 2 months, 5:00 is hard to get used to. The cold, dark mornings aren’t helping.
3. I am still feeling beat up from Chicago. Lots of little irritations – particularly heel pain, tight calves and tight hamstrings. Frustrating.
4. I don’t have any races on the calendar. I know I’ll run a half in April – but that is a LONG way away. It is easy to keep thinking I can slack off for a few more weeks/months.
I know after a few more weeks I’ll be in a better place, so I need to keep plugging along and stay on track. Wish me luck though, because I will need it!
Monday is my rest day, but I did my arm weights, core work and some hamstring stretches.
Tuesday I was scheduled for 75 minutes. I got in 8.5 miles with 5 striders (8:49 pace). I also did my core work and hamstring stretches.
Wednesday I was scheduled for 50 minutes. But I didn’t get out the door when I needed to because I was dealing with a sick son. I put in 42 minutes – 4.8 miles (8:51 pace). Again I did my core work and hamstring stretches – which really felt like they were helping.
Thursday I had 75 minutes on tap again, but I was feeling very tired after several early mornings (and not early enough of evenings), so I was a bit slower. 8.38 miles (8:58 pace).
Friday I was really dragging. I was scheduled for 50 minutes and almost bagged the run altogether. Once I got out there, I almost convinced myself to stop at 30 minutes. But fortunately I pushed through and got in 5.75 miles (8:55 pace).
Saturday was a beautiful day and frankly I should have run my long run. But I was super busy all day and just got in my 40 minutes – 4.5 (8:43) pace.
Sunday I was scheduled for my long run – 90 minutes. But it was snowing like crazy, super wet and slushy and I didn’t want to hit the treadmill. So I completely bailed. This is very uncharacteristic for me, but I am just finding it so HARD to motivate when I really don’t need to be training yet and I know it.
Total: 32 miles (a good 10+ off my schedule).
