This week started off with a bang– and then a couple of blisters forced me off the trails for three days in a row. I decided to be proactive about my lack of running during the middle of the week by adding two long runs in on the weekend. I’ve read quite a bit about doing back-to-back long runs to help your body get used to running on tired legs. It ended up kicking my butt (in a good way) and I feel better about missing out on that mileage! Sometimes you have to just turn lemons into delicious lemonade :) Maybe it was a blessing in disguise that I took off a couple days– by the third day I couldn’t wait to hit the trails!
Monday: 5 Miles in the Lunas. Unfortunately, I didn’t tie them correctly and ended up getting two GIANT blisters on each foot. I could barely walk right after the run. Dang :-(
Tuesday: Blister healing day #1.
Wednesday: Blister healing day #2.
Thursday: Blister healing day #3.
Friday: 4 Mile trail run, with elevation gains of 1,600 ft and descents of 1,200 ft. Killer! It was extremely hot and I didn’t feel so good on this run.
Saturday: 14 Mile trail run in Malibu Canyon Creek, with elevation gains of 2,903 ft and descents of 2,602 ft. This was my longest run so far!
Sunday: 9 Mile trail run on the Nine Trails course in Santa Barbara. One of the most difficult runs of my life, with an overall elevation gain of 3,360 ft and descent of 2,348 ft.
Overall mileage: 31 Miles
