I don’t have much to write about as I have been taking it easy until my scheduled ART appointment on Monday. However, I have come to the conclusion that I can run but it’s pretty uncomfortable with shoes on. And because I’m not too hardcore of a barefoot runner (yet), I figured it was best to give myself some rest until the chiropractor can try and work out what I believe to be scar tissue (or even bursitis) in my upper heel and lower achilles area.
Oddly enough, James came down with a funky injury of sorts as well. We think it’s a hernia but he will find out next week and could quite possibly get it fixed next week, too. Not being able to run sucks but when your partner can’t run either, it is a tad comforting to sulk in the pain together. Another thing that also helped me to stay mentally positive was looking back at my old training logs. I had started back up with running daily in 2009. While I never had a lay-off over two weeks, when I did have to take some time off, I was back at it pretty easily. Usually, I will swim hard core to try and maintain fitness, but this time around, I wanted to take a few days to not feel pressured to exercise. The only other time I did that was in 2010, when I traveled to Peru and stayed at 11,000+ feet of altitude. Being new to altitude, I didn’t want to risk anything so I laid low and enjoyed myself. As soon as I got back, I started running the next day and the world was fine. I’m confident it will be the same this time around. But if it’s not, I’ll be ok with that, too.
Wednesday: 40 minute walk around my neighborhood.
Friday: 3 miles and 4 barefoot strides in the grass. This run was the most normal feeling run since my achilles swelled up two weeks ago but it hurt quite a bit post-run.
Saturday: 30 minute neighborhood walk. It actually made some of the pain go away. Active rest it is!
Total: 3 miles running
